Dreams don’t come true if you don’t take the leap and follow them.
But starting can be so fucking hard!
Of course, the practical side of taking the leap is real. But personally, both in my own experience and in others, I’ve found the mental side to be much more challenging.
I’ve also found that once a person decides to take the leap, the Universe creates a path forward, and the practical stuff tends to sort itself out. This is also something that has be very true for myself and for many others.
So, with that in mind, this post is going to focus on how to get yourself in the mental place to finally take the leap and chase your dreams.
Here are 6 things you can do to finally take that leap!
Dream big
Give yourself time to daydream. Imagine your life when your dream comes true.
Imagine how good it will feel to accomplish this, and how fulfilled you’ll be when you’re in the position to live your dream.
It’s also good to imagine how pursing living your dream will positively impact you and your world.
I fully believe that people who pursue their dreams are better versions of themselves because they’re naturally more fulfilled. As a result, they’re more positive and purposeful in their everyday life.
It’s also good to imagine how your dream will benefit others, and how it will contribute to the world.
Don’t give any thought to practicality right now. Just imagine your dream, with no limits, in it’s purest form.
Let it be real in your imagination, just for now.
This can give you an important boost of inspiration and motivation. Now you’re not just chasing a dream. You’re chasing a feeling, a lifestyle, and a way of being. You’re chasing an improved life for yourself and everyone in your orbit.
It can also be helpful to come back to this if/when you start to lose momentum or face challenges.
Go slow
Give yourself permission to go slow.
The idea of bringing your dream to life can sound like a lot. Especially if you’ve got a big dream or if you’ll have to make dramatic changes to your life.
It can be overwhelming, which can be enough to keep you from starting.
But dreams don’t come true overnight. Get used to the idea that you don’t have to do everything at once.
It’s okay to go slow. Right now, you just have to start and take that first step. And once you do that, you just have to take the next step.
Create a safety net if you need it
There may be some dreams that require you to completely abandon your life as you know it or to go all in from the start. But most actually give you a lot more room to transition than you may realize.
This means, you can create a safety net if you need it.
For instance, if it’s you’re dream to start an online business, you don’t have to completely quit your current job and way of life to make that happen.
Instead, you can decide to give yourself 6-12 months before you quit your job. In that time, you can start building your online storefront and attracting an audience.
And while you do this, you can also be cutting down on your expenses and saving so that you have some extra money if you need it when you finally do quit your job and go all in.
This is just an example, but I think you’ll find most dreams have more flexibility than you realize. It’s worth exploring if yours does and what a safety net for your dream might look like.
Don’t overthink it
Let’s be real for a second. Anytime we’re chasing a dream, we’re also taking a risk.
And I think I can speak for all of us when I say we will always find reasons not to take the risk. The more we think about the risks involved with our dream, the more reasons we’ll find not to do it.
So stop overthinking it.
Doubt will creep in. We’re human, after all. But the key is to catch it and redirect yourself before you talk yourself out of starting.
If you find yourself in this place, take yourself back to your big dream visualization at the start of this post.
Remember your vision and how good this has the potential to feel.
Your overthinking mind may not be wrong. Things may not workout as you plan.
But if you’ve taken the time to dream big, then you see the potential in this. You owe it to yourself to at least try.
Have faith you’re pulled to this for a reason
I believe the dreams we have for ourselves are a calling. It’s the universe telling you that this is something that’s meant for you.
It’s saying that this is something that will drastically transform your life for the better, and it’s how you can serve the collective.
Have faith that if you’re feeling pulled to a dream, it’s for a reason. It’s meant for you. And that means it’s a journey that’s worth taking.
That’s not to say that it’ll be easy–nothing worth it ever is. But the lessons you learn along the way will make you into a better version of yourself.
If this is meant for you, there’s something for you to gain here.
So when you need the mental push to take the leap, remind yourself that this dream is calling to your for a reason.
