One challenge a lot of people face when transforming their lives and pursing a dream is finding the time to really make it happen.
Often times when we make the commitment to our dreams, we have responsibilities, obligations, and other time commitments that are already in motion. Because of this, finding the time and energy to actually chase your dream can be a real struggle.
But the good news is there are actually ways you can create time for your dream.
With that in mind, here are 5 ways you can find more time to pursue your dreams!
Prioritize consistency
It can be really tempting to go all in and start carving out an hour a day (or more) to chase your dream. Trust me, I get it. I’ve been there.
But this is it can be hard to maintain once the initial rush of excitement wears off. It can also be easy to overwhelm yourself trying to fit this hour into your schedule every day. You may even find it’s enough to discourage you from moving forward.
Instead, try starting small. It’s okay if you can only show up for half an hour a week (or less) at first.
You’ll likely find that the deeper you get into your journey, the more time you’ll be able to find. When you’re starting, consistency is the most important thing.
Make a conscious trade off
It can be hard to “find time” in an already full schedule. Instead of trying to squeeze in time for your dream, try to make a conscious trade off with something that’s already on your schedule.
For instance, if you regularly enjoy an hour of TV every night, could you trade that hour for your dream a couple of nights a week?
Or if you have a habit of working late, can you commit to leaving your job when you’re supposed to and using the extra time you’re typically working to put towards your dream?
This type of trade off helps you intentionally set time aside for your dream and keeps you from putting too much on your plate at once.
Schedule it in
Whether you have some free time or you’ve created it for yourself, if you don’t protect it, you’ll never move your dream forward.
Scheduling the time in for your dream is one of the best ways to ensure that the time is set aside. This can also make it easier for you to avoid giving that time away.
This time in your calendar, blocked off, and allocated for something already. It’s not “free time” for other people to ask about.
This can also help your mindset. When you start prioritizing your dream enough to schedule it in, it’ll help you see your dream as something important.
It can also help you be more consistent about showing up for your dream since it’s literally in your calendar.
Delegate or ask for help
There’s a good chance that there are tasks on your plate that other people could help you out with. This is especially true if other people benefit from these tasks.
For instance, if you’re the person who always cooks meals in your household, consider asking for someone else to take that task a few nights a week or consider delegating a meal or two to a local restaurant.
Or maybe you drive the kids to and from school everyday. Could someone else take one shift so you can have time for your dream? You may even consider seeing if a neighbor with kids at the same school would be willing to carpool.
These are just some examples, but hopefully you get the idea. There are probably a handful of tasks on your plate that you can offload in some fashion to create more time for yourself and your dream.
Know your Why
This tips is a little less concrete, but it’s important all the same. Motivation is going to be key when it comes to following your dream and finding time is no exception.
Having a deep understanding of why you’re chasing this dream can help you find the motivation you need to uncover more time in your schedule and make more trade offs so you can be spending more time prioritizing your dream.
It can be a lot easier to make sacrifices in the short term if you’re abundantly clear on why it’s going to be worth it for you in the long term.
So if you haven’t taken the time to get laser clear on your why, consider making that your first priority. I think you’ll find once you do, a strategy for finding more time for this goal will naturally start to come together for you.
