If you feel at all inclined to create and live a creative life, I fully believe you should.
Creativity is a powerful force of expression, connection, understanding, and change.
But those of us who are called to live a creative life know it doesn’t come without it’s struggles.
As a creator myself, this is something I know all too well. As it turns out tarot can be an incredible tool to help keep the creativity flowing and provide guidance for a confident and empowered creative journey.
Now, if you’re new to this site, I should mention that I believe in using tarot as a tool for action and empowerment. So, I’m not here to ask the cards a question to dictate my fate or if something is going to happen for me.
Instead, I use the cards to help me get better in touch with the actions I can take to create the reality I want to be living in.
So with that in mind, here are 7 ways you can use tarot to help your creativity and creative goals!
Get clear on your vision and purpose
Getting hit with the inspiration stick can be a magical and invigorating experience. But sometimes it can also be overwhelming and intimidating.
Maybe this idea involves a new medium for you, or it’s a concept you feel so connected to, you’re almost afraid to tackle it. Or maybe it just feels so big that you don’t know what to do with it.
You may also have been confronted by people who discourage your creative aspersions. They may down play them and try to tell you it’s a frivolous waste of time.
Tarot can help you get clear on what your project is about and what’s potential is, so you can move your project forward with purpose. It can also allow you to get clear on it’s value and your “why” for creating, so you’ll be confident in your creative pursuit.
Some questions you might ask include:
- What’s the potential for this project?
- How might this project impact others?
- Why is it important for me to pursue this project/art form?
How and where to start
Getting started can be one of the most exciting parts of any project. But when you’ve got the entire journey in front of you, it can also feel like a lot.
You may struggle with knowing exactly where you should start. You also may also have a hard time gathering the courage to get yourself going.
After all, starting a new project takes an incredible amount of faith and trust. There’s no way to know what it will amount to–if it’ll amount to anything at all. So, starting down this road isn’t always easy.
Tarot can help you tap into your inner guidance and uncover a more concrete place to being. It can also help give you the courage you need to take the leap and get the project off the ground.
Some questions you might ask include:
- What’s the best place to start this project?
- What should my first step in this project be?
- Why is it important that I start this project?
Finding the best path forward
The thing about a creativity is that it can’t be controlled. It’s fluid and ever changing. And because of that, it can sometimes be hard to pin down the best path forward in any given moment.
You may feel like you have too many moving parts that need your attention. Or sometimes you start with a clear direction, then your creativity throws you a curve ball and you’re unsure how to recalibrate.
And sometimes, we can also just feel lost in the weeds!
Luckily, this is something else tarot can help with! Tarot can help you gain clarity in the direction of your project and/or creative life so you can move from a place of clarity and empowerment.
Some questions you might ask include:
- What needs to be the priority of my project right now?
- What’s the next step I need to take with my project?
- What direction should I consider for my project?
Overcome creative blocks
I don’t think there’s a creative on earth who hasn’t had experience with creative blocks.
Sometimes they stop us cold and make it impossible to create in anyway. Sometimes, they should up as difficulties and parts of our project that we just can’t seem to figure out or get right.
This can be frustrating, exhausting, and discouraging.
Tarot can help you get to the bottom of your blocks and help you get your creativity and project back on track.
Some questions you might ask include:
- What is blocking me with this project and how can I remove this block?
- What does my project [or specific aspect of project] need?
- What can I do to get my creativity flowing again?
Gain clarity on important decisions
There are tons of decisions that come with a creative project. Some decisions can be made quickly and easily.
Others carry more weight and even have the potential to change the trajectory of your entire project. These decisions can be strictly creative, but they can also be related to people who may give you feedback and help you share your work.
If you’ve got a decision that has you feeling particularly indecisive, tarot can help give you the clarity and insights you need to keep moving your project forward.
I don’t recommend asking the cards what decision you should make, as that takes away your power. Instead, you can use the cards to consider possibilities.
They can also point out what it would be a good idea to prioritize as you make your choice.
Some questions you might ask include:
- What might it look like if I choose option A? And what might it look like if I choose option B?
- What do I need to be mindful of as I make this decision?
- How can I make a decision that best aligns with myself and my dream?
- Who would be the best person to ask for feedback on this project?
Find faith and confidence when you’re having doubts
There are ups and downs to any creative journey. And when you’re going through a down period, you may find yourself faced with fears and doubts.
You may be concerned what you’ve created isn’t good enough. Or you may feel like your project is never going to come together as you envisioned and reach it’s potential.
You may even be told my someone you value that your work doesn’t make the cut.
You may feel like you’re a failure as a creative.
But the thing is, you’re not.
I don’t believe anyone can fail as a creative as long as they keep creating. Everything may not go the way you hope, but there are still lessons to be learned and connections to be made that can take you to the next level.
It may be tempting to give up in these times, either on your project or on your creative life as a whole. But I fully believe if you feel compelled to create than you were meant to create.
And if you continue to create, you will eventually get to where you want to be.
Tarot can be a wonderful way to restore your faith in your project and your creative life. This can allow you to dig yourself out of the whole you may be in, pick yourself up, and get back to creating.
Some questions you might ask include:
- Why is it important that I stick with this project?
- How can reconnect with my creativity, creative passion, and creative drive?
- How can I use this unfavorable experience to grow and how will it benefit me in the future?
Guidance on sharing your work
Odds are, if you’re going to create at some point you’re also going to share your work.
The good news is, thanks to the internet, it has never been easier to share and find an audience for your creation.
The bad news is you have a lot to consider.
You may consider if you want to go indie or try for larger, more traditional channels. Or you might consider if you want to share on YouTube, blogs, or social media and grow an audience that way.
And if you’re going for a larger or traditional audience, you may wonder which agent/manager/producer can you trust with your work.
But once again, tarot can tap into your inner guidance and help you weigh your options.
And if you already know what option you want to pursue, tarot can help gain clarity on what you need to do to get yourself where you want to be.
Some questions you might ask include:
- What might it look like if I share my work using option A? What about option B? What about Option C?
- What can I do to connect with the best [agent/manager/producer/etc] for me and my project?
- What signs might I see when I’ve found a good home for my project?
